APPLE RUMORED TO UNVEIL OLED IWATCH IN OCTOBER By Rasmus Larsen ( @flatpanels ) 09 Jun 2014 More Sharing Services0 Comment

Apple’s big plans for “wearables”; products that you can wear, will be unveiled this October, according to Nikkei. The iWatch is said to feature a curved OLED display, manufactured by LG.Display.

APPLE IWATCH IN OCTOBER Much has already been written about Apple’s iWatch, which looks like one of two new – the other being TV - major categories for the American electronics giant.

The iWatch will reportedly feature a 1.52-inch OLED display, which curves partly around the wrist. OLED displays are paper-thin and flexible, which makes the technology suitable for use in watches or other devices that you wear on your body.

LG is already mass producing flexible OLED displays

LG.Display has been rumored to be the display supplier for iWatch on several occasions. LG already operates mass-production facilities for OLED panels and will expand significantly in "second half of 2014" - probably over the summer, which would allow them to produce panels ahead of an October launch frame. LG and Samsung are the only two manufacturers of OLED panels, and it is not unlikely that Apple could source panels from both.

Apple’s iWatch is believed to be part of a major focus on sports, health and “presence communication” in the home or inside shopping areas. It will be able to measure physical activity, sleep patterns, blood data among other things. Apple is expected to manufacture 3-5 million iWatches per month.

Nikkei claims to know that Apple’s iWatch will be unveiled this October, but says that plans could change.
